ICC seeking arrest warrants for Hamas and Israel leaders for alleged war crimes
Bensouda says she is seeking warrants for military chiefs, former Hamas leaders
Move is a separate matter to cases demanding an arms embargo
The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Fatou Bensouda on 20 December 2019 announced an investigation into war crimes allegedly committed in the Palestinian Territories since 13 June 2014.
The ICC application is a separate matter to, for example, court cases demanding an arms embargo against Israel or South Africa. On 1 January 2015, the Government of the State of Palestine lodged a declaration under article 12(3) of the Rome Statute accepting the jurisdiction of the ICC.
